Asking for Help Isn’t Easy

Misty beach with a wave breaking

My Vision

Psychotherapy is a creative process where you invite a therapist into your world to help with a troubling emotional or psychological issue. We often feel vulnerable when asking for help. It’s not an easy step to take. We may feel feel two seemingly contradictory things at once: Longing for help and hesitating to ask for it. This makes sense because contacting a therapist is the first step in the difficult task of facing painful personal problems.

To get started on addressing these problems, we build a connection – a relationship. A therapeutic relationship can help weather storms that come your way. The deeper the problems, the more meaningful that rapport becomes.

Ultimately, our goal is to strive for meaningful change. We are doing good and important work when this transformation take place.

My Approach is Psychodynamic

I like the my mentor Ken’s description of this kind of therapy:

‘Psychodynamic therapy is based on the premise that many of the things we say and do are shaped by emotional and psychological processes that often operate below the level of our conscious awareness. Therapy may help to make us more aware of how these processes shape the experience of self and others.’
